Part 2If this blog leaves you scratching your head in confusion back up a step and check out our blog "To Float Or Not To Float" first. FLOAT LIFE Location: Kensington, Calgary Website: http://floatlife.ca/ Hours: 7am-11pm Daily Parking: On Street Paid, Free After 6pm Cost: Single Float $75 + GST (90 minutes), Multiple Packages & Memberships Available ![]() Float Life's center boasts a tranquil lobby and seating area and complimentary teas and filtered water. It’s clean, well lit and the décor is modern yet homey. There are bags of the Epsom salt along the wall which is neat as you can see exactly what you are floating in. (24 Of those bags to be exact). In the back of the center you’ll find a private washroom and a post float area equipped with hair dryers, brushes, Q-Tips, lotion and a large counter where you can pretty up at. Float Life has 5 float pods, each of which is located in a private suite. Every suite is equipped with an optional heater for cooler days, a shower (complete with shampoo, conditioner and body wash), towels and washcloths, bath mats, hooks to hang your clothes, a large mirror, a chair for one’s purse and a caddy of floating necessities. (Silicone ear plugs, individual Vaseline packages to apply to any cuts or scrapes on one’s body pre-float and disposable make up wipes). Each pod also has an inflatable cushion that you can use for head support during your float, if that appeals to you. When you arrive for your first float you can expect a thorough explanation of how to prepare for your float, and how to operate your pod. This introduction to the facility will cut into your float time which is a bummer, but definitely necessary as a virgin floater. You’ll then be assigned a room and off you go to get your float on. You’ll know your float time is over when the in pod lights come on and the music starts playing. You have several minutes to exit before the pod’s filtration pump begins it’s cycle. My Overall Impression… My husband bought me a special two float pass for Mother's Day, which I was so eager to use I actually went before Mother's Day for my first float. (Thanks hubby)!! I'm eagerly awaiting a Father's Day special to be posted, as a quick browse through Float Life's social media showed me that specials are offered around major holidays and city events (think Stampede time). Available float times worked well with my chaotic schedule. I'm a night owl so going to float post kid bedtime, or post work meeting worked great for me. Parking in this area of Kensington is not fantastic, but I did manage to find a nearby spot both times I have gone. I've only been here after 6:30pm though, so it might be different earlier in the day. I quite enjoyed Float Life’s clean, tranquil space. I liked that I could pick the color of light my pod would have, although this is a bit distracting too. It was nice that the float necessities caddy is on a chair right beside the pod. If you need something in the midst of your float, you don’t actually have to exit the pod to reach anything. If I could change one thing it would be that your 90 minute float time begins at your scheduled time, whether you are actually in the pod, or not. It would be nice if you were given a small grace period to shower, as I tended to feel a tad frantic taking off my makeup and showering. ~ Doula In The Wild Be sure to read the other parts in this series...
